Australia passes plain packaging laws

On 21 November Australia pased the final stage of their plain packaging laws for tobacco. From December 2012 all tobacco products in Australia will be sold in unbranded olive green packs.

Glover, M., Kira, A., Min, S., Scragg, R., Nosa, V., McCool, J., et al. (2011). Smoking is rank! But, not as rank as other drugs and bullying say New Zealand parents of pre-adolescent children. Health Promotion Journal of Australia, 22(3), 223.
 
Parents of 4,144 children attending five urban schools in a high smoking prevalence population in Auckland, New Zealand, were asked to rank seven concerns on a paper-based questionnaire, including smoking, alcohol and bullying, from most to least serious.

Tobacco displays removed!

We are pleased to finally see the end of tobacco displays. This is big step forwards towards the government’s goal of a smokefree New Zealand by 2025!

From 23 July 2012 tobacco products will no longer be allowed to be displayed in shops.
