Our role

ASH is a registered charity which produces and collects sound evidence to enable policy makers and communities to contribute to a Smokefree New Zealand. We value integrity and honesty in all that we say and do and strong research is integral to this. Collaboration is at the heart of nearly all that we do because we understand the value that partnership brings to achieving a shared vision of a Smokefree New Zealand by 2025.

We work with the government, all political parties, our sector and ethnic communities to achieve a shared vision of a Smokefree New Zealand by 2025.

Our priority for the next three years (2015-2018) is to help advance campaigns on standardised packaging, tobacco tax increases, and the introduction of tobacco retail licensing. As evidence evolves further we remain flexible in supporting other effective measures.

ASH also enables the nation to contribute to a Smokefree New Zealand through Stoptober.
